3 ways to improve your management
How often do you improve how you lead? If you never change your leadership style, your employees and dairy also will never change. Employees won’t grow. You might even be contributing to recurring problems. The dairy will run just the same as it always has. Your team won’t be inspired.
What adjustments in leadership can positively impact a team? We asked some of our customers — a veterinarian and several farm managers — about changes that make the biggest difference.
1. Explain the why. Do you tell employees they need to get something done just because you want it? They have to want it, too. Many things can motivate an employee, but above all, it starts with the manager. Employees will show more respect when you share how valuable their contributions are to the overall success of the dairy.
2. Build trust. Trust means you rely on someone else to accomplish what you might otherwise do yourself. Your team is always watching. Lead by example. Delegate your tasks. Trusting employees to complete tasks shows you believe in them, which can improve engagement and efficiency.
3. Change your approach. You can say a lot without saying anything at all. Change the way you talk and interact with people, and this can change the way they feel, perform and react. The better and more open the communication, the more likely everyone will complete tasks.
