Dairy wins in breakfast battle

This month, Taco Bell introduced a new breakfast menu. McDonald’s responded with free coffee for a week and a friendly ad campaign battle. We say, keep it up. Breakfast is excellent news for the dairy industry.

 New cheesy offerings from Taco Bell have joined standard favorites from McDonald’s in the breakfast business. Both restaurants have a strong strategic partnership with your dairy checkoff, so we’re excited by this great news.

 A team of dairy scientists worked in conjunction with the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy to incorporate dairy in more than 90% of the current Taco Bell menu, including each of the new savory breakfast menu items. Cheddar cheese is the main dairy ingredient in the savory breakfast options, and cream cheese is in the filling of the new, sweet Cinnabon® Delights

 McDonald’s also leveraged its partnership with the dairy checkoff by working with Innovation Center dairy scientists to incorporate dairy-friendly items in its menu. With the goal of moving 3 billion pounds of milk between 2012 and 2014, McDonald’s tested or introduced 27 new dairy-friendly products in 2013 with support from onsite checkoff employees.1

 Regardless of where you go for breakfast, both restaurants offer large menus with nutritious dairy offerings.
