POSTED BY: Dr. Jason Osterstock | DVM | Global Genetics Technical Services | Zoetis

CLARIFIDE®, the popular dairy genomic test from Zoetis, now is being conducted using a new 12,000-marker (12K) chip that increases the number of genetic markers tested.

In addition to parentage verification and more than 30 production, health, fertility and type traits, CLARIFIDE now provides new results for milk components, coat color and genetic conditions including:

  • Four milk components
    • Alpha S-1 casein
    • A1 Beta casein
    • Kappa casein I
    • Kappa casein II
  • Black/red coat color
  • Four genetic conditions
    • DUMPS (deficiency of uridine monophosphate synthase)
    • BLAD (bovine leucocyte adhesion deficiency)
    • CVM* (complex vertebral malformation)
    • Brachyspina*
  • Discovery of maternal grandsires

Results are distributed in as an exportable data file with more than 60 data points reported for each animal. Customers of CLARIFIDE will receive a Microsoft Excel® report with traits, indexes, parentage, reliability, components and other conditions organized in an easy-to-use format. Other data file types are available for use with external software programs as well.

These additional results from CLARIFIDE come at no additional charge and provide additional insight into future performance. CLARIFIDE also is backed by a team of technical experts who can help you create a genomics strategy for selecting and managing dairy females for the best possible return on investment.
