Take the residue risk assessment

The United States has one of the safest food supplies in the world. Yet on-farm practices regarding drug use are leading to higher risks and occurrences of residues in meat and milk. To put it simply, drugs don’t cause residues; people cause residues.

Fortunately, by working together with your veterinarian and employees, you can reduce your risk of a violation. Not sure where to start? Check out the Residue Risk Assessment.

Zoetis developed the assessment tool using data from actual U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigations into residue violations. The questionnaire asks about your animal health and treatment practices. Once all 10 questions are answered, the assessment rates the farm’s residue risk level as low, moderate or high.

Encourage your employees who are responsible for administering treatments to take the survey as well. Reviewing their results can help check for compliance. 

After completing the questionnaire, review the results with your veterinarian to develop a residue avoidance plan for your dairy to ensure the responsible use of antibiotics. While reviewing the results, consider these important tips as part of your residue prevention plan.
