How It Works
The dry period is hardly an "off-season" for cows. To prepare your cows, follow these
key ground rules:
- Provide whole-herd intramammary dry-cow treatment with QUARTERMASTER®
(penicillin-dihydrostreptomycin in oil) Suspension, ALBADRY PLUS®
(penicillin G procaine and novobiocin sodium) Suspension or BIODRY®
(novobiocin) Suspension.1
Here's why
- Insert ORBESEAL® Internal Teat Sealant into each
quarter after dry-cow antibiotic.
- Vaccinate with UPJOHN J-5 BACTERIN™
(Escherichia Coli Bacterin J-5 Strain) as part of a three-shot regimen. Administer the first shot
at dry-off, the second at least two to four weeks later Here's why
- Vaccinate for reproductive diseases as appropriate, such as ScourGuard® 3(K)/C
Here's why
- Develop and feed appropriate dry-cow and transition rations
Here's why
- Minimize heat stress
Here's why
- Body condition score every animal at dry-off
Here's why
- Provide appropriate foot care
Here's why
- Develop a system of continuous data gathering and benchmarking to monitor program progress
Here's why
