How It Works

The dry period is hardly an "off-season" for cows. To prepare your cows, follow these key ground rules:

  • Provide whole-herd intramammary dry-cow treatment with QUARTERMASTER® (penicillin-dihydrostreptomycin in oil) Suspension, ALBADRY PLUS® (penicillin G procaine and novobiocin sodium) Suspension or BIODRY® (novobiocin) Suspension.1
    Here's why

  • Insert ORBESEAL® Internal Teat Sealant into each quarter after dry-cow antibiotic.

  • Vaccinate with UPJOHN J-5 BACTERIN™ (Escherichia Coli Bacterin J-5 Strain) as part of a three-shot regimen. Administer the first shot at dry-off, the second at least two to four weeks later Here's why

  • Vaccinate for reproductive diseases as appropriate, such as ScourGuard® 3(K)/C Here's why

  • Develop and feed appropriate dry-cow and transition rations
    Here's why

  • Minimize heat stress
    Here's why

  • Body condition score every animal at dry-off
    Here's why

  • Provide appropriate foot care
    Here's why

  • Develop a system of continuous data gathering and benchmarking to monitor program progress
    Here's why

As with all drugs, QUARTERMASTER should not be used in animals found to be hypersensitive to the product.

1Prescription products must be used under the direction of a licensed veterinarian.
